Limocitrin is a flavonol glycoside that has been shown to inhibit the activity of a number of enzymes. The most notable enzyme inhibition is the inhibition of phosphodiesterase, which inhibits the production of cyclic AMP and leads to an increase in intracellular calcium levels. Limocitrin also inhibits fatty acid biosynthesis and activity index, which is a measure of enzyme activity. Limocitrin has been shown to bind to receptors on cells and inhibit receptor binding, which can lead to an anti-inflammatory effect. Limocitrin's anti-inflammatory properties have been demonstrated in vitro by its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in macrophages and monocytes.
