Mucronulatol is a natural compound that has potent inhibitory activity against oral pathogens. It is the first example of a compound with this action that can be administered orally. Mucronulatol is an inhibitor of fatty acid and amino acid metabolism, which may be linked to its growth factor-related activities. The natural compound inhibits glutamate pyruvate transaminase, a key enzyme in the citric acid cycle.
