RVT 501 is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody with potent angiogenic activity. It binds to the neurokinin-1 receptor and blocks its activation, which inhibits the release of proinflammatory cytokines. This effect is mediated by an inhibitory effect on proinflammatory signaling pathways, including NF-κB, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8. RVT 501 has been shown to be safe in clinical trials for cardiac diseases and has been found to have an anti-inflammatory mechanism that inhibits inflammatory skin diseases. A histological analysis of the effects of RVT 501 on a rat model of pancreatitis showed that this drug was able to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
