- Sequirin C (7CI)
Sequirin C is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It is a competitive antagonist of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which prevents the binding and activation of this receptor by its ligands, such as epidermal growth factor. The molecule also inhibits cancer cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in these cells. Sequirin C is synthesized in Escherichia coli using a scalable synthesis process and has been expressed as an antigen in baculovirus-infected insect cells. It is also genetically controlled by magnesium ions and can be isolated from japonica rice.
