Description

Tomenin is a chemotherapeutic drug that has been used to treat cancer. It is also used as an immunosuppressant in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Tomenin inhibits the growth of tumor cells by binding to and disrupting the GTPase activity of small G proteins. This inhibition prevents the activation of Ras, which is required for cell proliferation. Tomenin also acts as a chemo-sensitizer, enhancing the efficacy of other chemotherapy drugs. Tomenin binds to lipids and proteins in adipose tissue and is found at high levels in cancerous tissues. The therapeutic effect of this drug may be due to its ability to act as a chemo-sensitizer, which enhances the efficacy of other chemotherapy drugs.
