Compound 3a is a fatty acid that inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. Compound 3a exhibits anti-cancer, neuroprotective, and metabolic effects. This compound also shows potential to treat metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus and obesity. Compound 3a is stable in water, which makes it a good candidate for use in vivo. In vitro studies show that Compound 3a has an inhibitory effect on the growth of cancer cells by binding to the hydroxyl group of the lipid bilayer membrane skeleton. The mechanism of this inhibition is not yet fully understood but may be due to its ability to form stable complexes with biological membranes or its interaction with proteins inside the cell. Compound 3a reacts with nitric oxide (NO) to produce hydroxyl radicals, which can cause DNA damage and lead to cell death.
