Eurycomalactone is a pro-apoptotic protein found in the leaves of Eurycoma longifolia. It has been shown to have anticancer activity and to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro. Eurycomalactone may also be effective in treating leukemia, as it has been shown to reduce the number of white blood cells and platelets in rats. The acute toxicity study found that eurycomalactone is about one-tenth as toxic as quassinoid, which is a chemical compound found in the plant's leaves. This compound was found to be effective at doses of 100 mg/kg or less in mice.
