• Description: Indecainide hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of ion channels that are gated by voltage, such as sodium and calcium. It is an activator of the beta-adrenergic receptor. Indecainide hydrochloride binds to the beta-adrenergic receptor in the cytoplasm and stabilizes the receptor in its active state, thereby increasing its affinity for acetylcholine and norepinephrine. This drug has been shown to inhibit ligand-gated ion channels, such as nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and serotonin 5HT2A receptors. It also inhibits peptides that bind to receptors, such as substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP).
