Dexivacaine is a local anesthetic that is used as a topical agent to numb the skin, muscle, and other tissues. It binds to sodium channels in nerve cells, preventing depolarization and the transmission of pain signals. Dexivacaine has been shown to inhibit voltage-gated potassium channels in skeletal muscle cells, which may lead to adverse effects such as arrhythmia. This drug is also used as a ligand for receptor mapping and cell biology research.
