CAS :N-(Hydroxymethyl)phthalimide is a carbonyl-containing compound that has acidic properties. It can be used as a precursor to the synthesis of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. N-(Hydroxymethyl)phthalimide is stable in basic solutions and hydrolyzes in acidic environments. It is also soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, methylene chloride, and dimethyl sulfoxide. N-(Hydroxymethyl)phthalimide's antiinflammatory activity may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting amine oxidase.
