Diethylstilbestrol dipropionate can be used in estrogen therapy of relapsed prostate cancer.

Diethylstilbestrol is a nonsteroidal estrogen that is used as an animal growth promoter. It is found in the urine of animals treated with this drug, and can be detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using a sensitive and selective analytical method. A mixture of cis and trans isomers was optimised for this analysis. The analytes are quantified by GC-MS after sample preparation, which involves acid hydrolysis followed by extraction. The sensitivity and specificity of the GC-MS method were determined to be 0.01 ng/mL and 99%, respectively.
