Guazatine trifluoroacetate (GTA) is a derivative of guazine that has been modified to be hydrophilic. GTA is used as a selective herbicide and has shown synergistic activity with copper chloride against wild-type strains of bacteria, including human pathogens. GTA also has high resistance in plants and can be used to study plant metabolism. GTA is an analytical reagent that can be used to separate the nucleic acids in a DNA sample by means of hydrophobic interaction chromatography. The hydrogen bond between GTA and its complementary DNA sequence prevents the separation of the two molecules during the process.
