Tribenuron-metile è un erbicida selettivo appartenente alla classe delle sulfoniluree, utilizzato principalmente per il controllo delle erbe infestanti a foglia larga in varie colture, in particolare nei cereali. Tribenuron-methyl is an herbicide that inhibits the activity of acetolactate synthase (ALS) in plants, which is an enzyme involved in the production of the branched-chain amino acid valine. Tribenuron-methyl has been shown to inhibit ALS activity in wheat and some resistant mutants of ALS are still inhibited by this herbicide. The synergic effect between tribenuron-methyl and other herbicides is also important for controlling weeds. Resistant mutants can be reduced using a dispersive solid-phase extraction method, which involves applying a liquid solvent to the soil, extracting water-soluble molecules from the soil, and then concentrating them on a solid phase such as silica gel. This extraction method was used to study the metabolism of herbicides in wheat plants.
