Acido D(-)-lattico, noto anche come D-lattato, è un composto organico con la formula molecolare C3H6O3. È una molecola chirale, esistente come uno dei due enantiomeri dell'acido lattico, l'altro essendo l'acido L-lattico. Acido D(-)-lattico è un liquido incolore e viscoso che è solubile in acqua e presenta un sapore leggermente acido. Viene prodotto naturalmente nel corpo durante la respirazione anaerobica ed è anche presente in vari alimenti fermentati. Il composto ha un punto di fusione di circa 18-20°C e un punto di ebollizione di circa 122°C a pressione atmosferica. Acido D(-)-lattico è utilizzato in varie applicazioni, tra cui la conservazione degli alimenti, i farmaci e come precursore di plastiche biodegradabili. Il suo ruolo nei processi metabolici e le potenziali applicazioni terapeutiche, in particolare nel trattamento di alcuni disturbi metabolici, hanno suscitato interesse nella comunità scientifica. Come molti acidi organici, può agire come un acido debole, dissociandosi parzialmente in soluzione per rilasciare protoni.

It is also produced in the human body and can be used as an energy source. D-lactic acid has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against wild-type strains of Escherichia coli, but not against multidrug-resistant strains.
