3-Octanone is a colorless liquid that has a boiling point of 82.5°C and a melting point of -18°C. It can be used as an analytical standard for ethyl decanoate, and as an extractant in solid phase microextraction (SPME) sample preparation. 3-Octanone has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins.
