3-Iodo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridine has bronchodilatory activity. It is an analog of the natural product pyrazolopyridine and is metabolized to 3-iodo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridine carboxylate in vivo. This compound has two stereoisomers that differ only in the configuration about the central carbon atom. The (R) isomer is more potent than the (S) isomer in inhibiting cellular proliferation and inducing cancer cell death.
