Zileuton è un composto sintetico classificato come inibitore della sintesi dei leucotrieni, utilizzato principalmente nella gestione dell'asma. Funziona inibendo l'enzima lipossigenasi, che è cruciale nella produzione di leucotrieni, potenti mediatori infiammatori che contribuiscono alla broncocostrizione e all'infiammazione delle vie aeree.
