Acido 3-(4-idrossimetil)propionico, noto anche come HMPA, è un composto organico caratterizzato dal suo gruppo funzionale acido carbossilico e da un sostituente idrossimetilico sulla struttura dell'acido propionico. Si presenta come un solido cristallino bianco ed è solubile in acqua grazie alla presenza di gruppi idrossilici e carbossilici polari.
