Blu di bromofenolo è un colorante sintetico comunemente usato come indicatore di pH in varie applicazioni biochimiche. Si presenta come una polvere blu scuro o viola ed è solubile in acqua, mostrando un cambiamento di colore da giallo a pH acidi a blu in condizioni alcaline, tipicamente intorno a pH 3,0 a 4,6. Questa proprietà lo rende prezioso in ambienti di laboratorio, in particolare nell'elettroforesi su gel, dove aiuta a visualizzare il progresso della separazione di DNA o proteine. Il composto ha una formula molecolare di C19H10Br4O5S e presenta un gruppo acido solfonico, che ne migliora la solubilità in soluzioni acquose.
