AF-DX 384 is a potent and selective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It has been shown to be useful in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, such as myasthenia gravis and Lambert-Eaton syndrome. AF-DX 384 also inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase, which is an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory and muscle control. In addition, AF-DX 384 has been found to have no effect on other cholinergic receptors or on calcium levels. The drug has been shown to be effective in animal models of cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury. This activity may be related to its ability to inhibit the transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
