Inhibits 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11β-HSD1), an enzyme required for the intracellular regeneration of glucocorticoids in the CNS. ASP 3662 is selective over 11β-HSD2 and is CNS-penetrant. Reduces chronic pain by maintaining high levels of inactive glucocorticoids and thus demonstrates its anti-nociceptive and analgesic protperties. A potential candidate for the treatment of neuropathic and dysfunctional pain.
