It has a high vapor pressure and low solubility in water. 1,1,1,3-Tetrachloro-3,3-difluoropropane is used as a solvent for organic compounds and as an intermediate in the production of other chlorocarbons. It can be used to produce calcium chloride and chlorine gas. 1,1,1,3-Tetrachloro-3,3-difluoropropane also has fumigant properties because it absorbs moisture from the air and releases it later.
