1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dimethylphosphate (EMIMP) is an ionic liquid that is used in chromatography. It is a colorless, odorless liquid that is soluble in water and has a high boiling point. EMIMP can be used as a stationary phase for the separation of natural compounds by using chromatographic methods such as column or thin layer chromatography. The optimum reaction temperature for EMIMP is 160°C, and it has been shown to have some solubilizing properties. EMIMP can also be used to extract organic materials from cells, which are then separated into their component parts by gel permeation chromatography. This ionic liquid is also an excellent solvent for proteins and peptides.
