Quetiapine is a psychotropic drug that is used for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is an inhibitor of D2-type dopaminergic, serotoninergic, adrenergic, histaminergic, and muscarinic receptors. Quetiapine binds to specific receptors on the cell surface and prevents the binding of other drugs or endogenous substances such as dopamine. This results in the activation or inhibition of various cellular processes like ion channels. Quetiapine has been shown to be an antibody cross-reactive ligand for two different subtypes of dopamine receptors: D2L and D3R.
