Descrizione:
Ossido di magnesio (MgO) è un composto inorganico caratterizzato dalla sua apparente bianca e polverosa e dall'alto punto di fusione. Si forma dalla reazione del magnesio con l'ossigeno ed è comunemente trovato in natura come il minerale periclase. Ossido di magnesio è noto per la sua eccellente stabilità termica ed è un buon isolante elettrico. Ha un alto punto di fusione, rendendolo adatto per applicazioni ad alta temperatura, come materiali refrattari nei forni. Chimicamente, è un ossido basico e reagisce con gli acidi per formare sali di magnesio. In termini di solubilità, il MgO è poco solubile in acqua, ma può reagire con gli acidi per produrre sali di magnesio solubili. Le sue applicazioni sono diverse, che vanno dall'uso nei materiali da costruzione, all'agricoltura come condizionatore del suolo, fino al suo ruolo nella produzione di metallo di magnesio.
