Ossido di molibdeno (MoO3) è un composto chimico caratterizzato da un alto punto di fusione e stabilità in condizioni ambientali. Appare tipicamente come una polvere gialla a verdastra ed è noto per le sue proprietà semiconduttrici, rendendolo utile in varie applicazioni elettroniche. MoO3 è un precursore importante nella produzione di metallo di molibdeno e altri composti di molibdeno. Presenta una struttura a strati, che contribuisce alle sue uniche proprietà fisiche e chimiche, inclusa l'attività catalitica, in particolare nelle reazioni di ossidazione. Il composto è insolubile in acqua, ma può dissolversi in acidi forti, formando ioni molibdato. L'ossido di molibdeno è anche utilizzato nella produzione di pigmenti, catalizzatori e come additivo lubrificante grazie alla sua capacità di resistere ad alte temperature.
