Aldol 470 acetate is a chromogenic substrate for carboxylesterases yielding a yellow precipitate. Furthermore it shows some fluorescence(excitation at 320 nm to 490 nm). In contrast to classical indoxylsubstrates, Aldol substrates work not only under aerobic but also under anaerobic conditions.
