Descrizione:
Allumina, chimicamente noto come ossido di alluminio, è una polvere bianca e inodore con la formula Al₂O₃. È un componente chiave in varie applicazioni industriali, principalmente a causa della sua durezza e stabilità termica. Allumina presenta eccellenti proprietà di isolamento elettrico ed è chimicamente inerte, rendendolo resistente alla corrosione e alla degradazione in ambienti difficili. Ha un alto punto di fusione, il che contribuisce al suo utilizzo in materiali refrattari. Oltre alle sue applicazioni strutturali, Allumina è anche utilizzato come abrasivo e nella produzione di metallo di alluminio attraverso il processo Bayer. La sostanza esiste in diverse forme cristalline, tra cui alfa (α-Al₂O₃) e gamma (γ-Al₂O₃), ognuna con proprietà e usi distinti.
