CAS:Tetrahydrofolic acid is a water-soluble sodium salt that is found in the form of tetrahydrofolate (THF) in the human body. It is involved in the synthesis of DNA and other biomolecules. Tetrahydrofolic acid has been used as an antimicrobial agent, mainly to inhibit bacterial growth. In wastewater treatment, tetrahydrofolic acid has been shown to have a matrix effect on polymerization reactions and transfer reactions. Tetrahydrofolic acid can also be used as a reagent for analytical methods and reaction solutions for enzymes with THF as a substrate. The enzyme activities are glycol ethers with THF as a cofactor. Tetrahydrofolic acid can be used in model systems to study enzyme kinetics or enzymatic mechanisms.
