1,8-Dioxacyclotetradecane-2,7-dione is an antioxidant and a polymerization inhibitor. It is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics, which are resistant to degradation by heat or light. This compound is also used as an additive in polyurethane resins and other compositions to prevent degradation caused by oxidation. 1,8-Dioxacyclotetradecane-2,7-dione inhibits the formation of carbonyl groups that can lead to crosslinking reactions and gelation. It has been shown to have safety profiles when used at low concentrations.
