CAS:Cyclopentene is a compound that has inhibitory properties against Cox-2. It has been shown to have a synergistic effect with vitamin C and the anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the inducible form of Cox-2. Cyclopentene inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to PGE2. Cyclopentene also inhibits nitric oxide synthase, leading to a decrease in reactive nitrogen species (RNS) and oxidative stress. This inhibition of COX-2 could lead to increased mitochondrial membrane potential and reduced apoptosis.
