1-Hydroxyethyl-2'-deoxyadenosine (1HEDA) is an antiviral drug that inhibits the synthesis of viral DNA by blocking the formation of a ribonucleoside triphosphate intermediate. 1HEDA is a novel monophosphate nucleoside that has been modified to be resistant to phosphodiesterase enzymes and can be used as a chemotherapeutic agent for cancer. 1HEDA has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro, in vivo, and in human clinical trials.
