It has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities in the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, which are responsible for the production of fatty acids, as well as tissue culture cells. Strictosidine has been shown to have anti-cancer activity and may be used for the treatment of insulin resistance.
