CAS:2-(1-Cyclohexenyl)cyclohexanone (CCH) is a growth factor that belongs to the group of p2 class. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of thymidylate synthase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate to thymidylate. CCH also inhibits cancer cell growth by inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. The inhibition of this enzyme is thought to be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with amino groups on proteins, which prevents them from functioning as enzymes. CCH is synthesized in mitochondria and activated by hydrochloric acid, which converts it into a reactive species. This reactive species then reacts with unsaturated alkyl chains on fatty acids and reacts with aromatic hydrocarbons in the cell membrane, causing lipid peroxidation and cellular damage.
