Desfuroyl ceftiofur cysteine disulfide

Desfuroyl ceftiofur cysteine disulfide (DFCDS) is a novel antimicrobial agent that was synthesized and validated by mass spectrometry methods. DFCDS has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis, as well as Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. The target tissue for DFCDS is the gut. The analytical method of this compound is dispersive solid phase extraction with a sample preparation involving tissue samples that are chemically reacted with DFCDS in order to form reaction products. This compound can also be used as an antimicrobial resistance indicator in bioassays and test samples because it reacts with the polysulfide bond in bacterial dna gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
