CAS:Esaxerenone is a drug that is used to treat high blood pressure. It is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) and is structurally related to the ACE inhibitor, perindopril. In vitro kinetic studies show that esaxerenone has a plasma concentration-time curve similar to perindopril, but with a longer half-life. Esaxerenone binds to the angiotensin II type 1 receptors in the kidneys and prevents the binding of angiotensin II, which causes vasoconstriction and increased blood pressure. Esaxerenone also inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 3, which increases levels of cAMP in cells and leads to relaxation of blood vessels. Esaxerenone may cause impotence, dizziness, or drowsiness as side effects due to its effect on the central nervous system.
