It inhibits the carboxylic acid activity of mouse liver cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme carboxylesterase. 16±-Hydroxytrametenolic acid also has been shown to inhibit the growth of fungi by inhibiting carboxylic acid synthesis. The chemical structure of 16±-hydroxytrametenolic acid is similar to that of dehydrotumulosic acid and poria.
