The compound is not found in nature and has low yields. 5-Bromo-2,4-dimethyl-oxazole can be obtained by bromination of 2,4-dimethyloxazole and it can be synthesized by the reaction of acetone with acetic anhydride. This compound is used in the production of esters, which are used as solvents in perfumes and flavors. It is also used as a photolysis agent for the production of dyes and polymers. 5-Bromo-2,4-dimethyl-oxazole has been studied extensively for its photochemical properties.
