AG-1557 is a synthetic drug that has been shown to modulate the biological function of epidermal growth factor (EGF). It has been shown to increase the number of EGF receptors and protein synthesis in cells, which may lead to increased cellular proliferation. AG-1557 also increases insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) levels and decreases IGFBP-1 levels. The effects of this drug on the skin have not yet been determined. In clinical studies, AG-1557 was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events reported.
