5-Aminomethyluridine is a chemical compound that is involved in protein synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the production of methylated uridines and cytosine, as well as the formation of 5-methylcytosine by methyltransferase. It also inhibits protein synthesis in human cells. 5-Aminomethyluridine may be able to block the progression of infectious diseases by inhibiting protein synthesis in the host cell. The compounds have been shown to inhibit the catalytic subunit of ribonucleotide reductase and RNA polymerase II, which are vital for cellular replication.
