2-[(Acetylsulfanyl)methyl]butanedioic acid is a hydrazone that has shown immunizing effects against infestation by hetero-species. This drug has been shown to be microbicidal and microbicide in the treatment of certain bacterial infections, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Clostridium perfringens. 2-[(Acetylsulfanyl)methyl]butanedioic acid may be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other drugs with antimicrobial activity. This compound is synthesized from benzyl alcohol and acetone, which are both commercially available. 2-[(Acetylsulfanyl)methyl]butanedioic acid can also be attacked by microbiocidal agents such as hydrogen peroxide or chlorine gas, leading to inhibition of microbial growth.
