Methuosis inducer 1 (MI1) is a small molecule that induces apoptosis in cancer cells. It activates the caspase-independent cell death pathway by binding to the receptor for epidermal growth factor, which leads to an increase in c-Jun-N-terminal kinase and activation of the transcription factor AP-1. MI1 also inhibits cellular proliferation and angiogenesis. In addition, it has been shown that MI1 has anticancer activity against primary brain tumors in mice.
