2-Bromo-4-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)thiazole is a nucleophilic trifunctional aldehyde. It has been used in the synthesis of a number of biologically active compounds including alkylating agents and herbicides. The lithiation of 2-bromo-4-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)thiazole with lithium diisopropylamide in dimethylamine gives 3-methyleneaziridine. This reaction is important in the synthesis of other compounds because it provides an efficient way to produce aziridines from simple starting materials.
