Autophagy is a process by which cells break down and recycle their own components to provide energy or to eliminate toxic substances. IMC has been shown to inhibit the growth of glioma cells in tissue culture, as well as human malignant brain tumors in vivo. IMC also blocks epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling by targeting EGFR downstream molecules such as ERK and AKT.
