Applications 1-(1-Adamantyl)ethanol is patented for use to catalyze the change of the load state of MHC molecules and possible use in treatment and diagnosis of cancer, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases. It also shows inhibitory action against herpes simplex virus type 1, vaccinia virus, vesicular stomatitis virus, fowl plaque virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and Venezuelan encephalitis virus.

The chemical compound has been shown to be therapeutically effective in autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. 1-(1-Adamantyl)ethanol has been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines that are associated with these diseases. This compound also inhibits the activation of T cells and B cells, which are immune cells that play important roles in these inflammatory processes. 1-(1-Adamantyl)ethanol can be taken orally in a pharmaceutical dosage form or intravenously as an infusion therapy.
