SFMS is produced by the reaction of hydrogen sulfide and chlorofluorocarbons, which yields SFMS and hydrochloric acid. The reaction system is designed to produce an efficient method for preparing SFMS with high yield in the presence of oxygen. This compound reacts with functional groups and forms alkylation products such as methylsulfonyl chloride, methylsulfonyl fluoride, carbonyls, methides, and other compounds.
