2,5-Anhydro-L-iditol is a kinetic product of transglycosylation. It has been shown to be stereoselective and can be used as an acid catalyst in the synthesis of furanic compounds. 2,5-Anhydro-L-iditol is also a nucleophilic reagent that can participate in reactions with hydrogen chloride and tetraose chloride.
