Lapatinib is a potent and selective small molecule that inhibits the tyrosine kinase activity of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) and the related receptor tyrosine kinases, HER2/neu. Lapatinib binds to the ATP binding site of EGFR, preventing its activation by binding to peptide ligands or antibodies.
