Descrizione:
Tobramicina è un antibiotico aminoglicosidico utilizzato principalmente per trattare infezioni causate da batteri Gram-negativi, in particolare Pseudomonas aeruginosa. È efficace contro una serie di infezioni batteriche, specialmente in pazienti con fibrosi cistica o con sistemi immunitari compromessi. La sostanza è caratterizzata dalla sua capacità di inibire la sintesi proteica batterica legandosi alla subunità ribosomiale 30S, portando a una lettura errata dell'mRNA e, infine, alla morte cellulare. Tobramicina viene tipicamente somministrato per inalazione, iniezione o applicazione topica, a seconda della posizione e della gravità dell'infezione. È noto per la sua tossicità relativamente bassa rispetto ad altri aminoglicosidi, anche se può comunque causare nefrotossicità e ototossicità, richiedendo un attento monitoraggio della funzione renale e dell'udito durante il trattamento. La struttura chimica di Tobramicina include più gruppi idrossile e amminici, contribuendo alla sua solubilità e attività biologica. Come per tutti gli antibiotici, l'emergere di resistenza è una preoccupazione, rendendo essenziale un uso appropriato e l'adesione ai regimi prescritti per mantenere la sua efficacia.
