The reaction yield for this reaction is about 60%. 6-Fluorohydroxymethyltetrahydrofolate can also be converted to paraformaldehyde and dimethylamine, which are used in the synthesis of other compounds. The positional isomer of 6-fluoromethylenetetrahydropterin (6FMTP) can be synthesized from 6-fluoroformaldehyde and paraformaldehyde.
